Established in the year 1985, Indira Gandhi National Open University is the world’s largest open university. Furthermore, the schools have a global reach, running many programmes in Africa and Asia.

The university also launched a National Centre for Innovations in Distance Education in December 2005 with the motive to promote entrepreneurship.

IGNOU follows an efficient and advanced “Credit System” for almost all the programmes wherein each credit is equivalent to 30 hours of study. This comprises all the learning activities undertaken by the students. Therefore, a four-credit programme comprises a total of 120 study hours. It is interesting to note here that all the management courses offered at IGNOU are 4 credit programmes with the exception of the project course which is of 8 credits.
