Established in the year 1969, Guru Nanak Dev University is accredited by NAAC with the highest grade i.e. “A++”. It is the only university in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh to be accredited with Category-1 Autonomy. Additionally, it is also given “University with Potential for Excellence” status by the UGC.
The Directorate of Open & Distance Learning, Guru Nanak Dev University was established in 2018 and started functioning in the academic year 2020-2021. The Directorate offers courses in 15 disciplines. It aims to offer education to students who can not opt for traditional mode of education. The university follows a credit-based semester system. It aims to offer industry-oriented courses and advanced curriculum to the students to help them develop holistically and bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and corporate jobs. It offers students with Self Learning Material and also organises Personal Contact Programmes to facilitate academic advancement among students.
Guru Nanak Dev University offers study material to the students for their convenience. It gives access to e-books, e-pathshala, university library and other resources. Additionally, it has journals from national and international publishers.
The university has taken various digital initiatives such as e-pathshala, e-Shodh Sindhu e-Yantra, virtual labs, and much more. The university aims to make the learning process easy for the students via these initiatives.

For enrollment in Guru Nanak University’s distance courses, there is a 4 step process. The students have to visit the official website and get registered. After this, a student has to fill in the detailed application form. After filling the form, a student has to choose his/her preferred course and the Learner Support Centre. This step will be followed by the payment of the fee.
