Established in 1992 as Vels Educational Trust, the VISTAS University was founded with an aim to present a cosmopolitan culture. The infrastructure is equipped with a wi-fi enabled campus and smart classrooms with a common Instrumentation Research Lab which is worth 12 crores. The university is accredited with NAAC ‘A’ grade and all the courses are approved by statutory bodies. The university has centres for advanced research and development, fish immunology, AI Research Lab, Technology Business Incubation Centre, and much more which facilitate a better learning experience for the students in their chosen study fields.
The university has various student clubs, NSS, Rotaract club and hosts cultural activities to promote student engagement. It has also signed various MoUs with global universities from countries like the USA, UK, Thailand, and Russia. It focuses on promoting student exchange programmes and helping them in getting a study abroad experience. The placement cell at Vels University not only facilitates placement activities but also helps in training the students to achieve quality placements.
Vels University volunteers for the NSS scheme and has the Rotaract Club where projects like visits to orphanages, blood donation camps, environment protection activities, and awareness campaigns are undertaken. It also has a unit of the Youth Red Cross Society which is affiliated with the Indian Red Cross Society and any student can be a member of it. In addition, several cultural activities are also encouraged at the university.
Different departments of Vels University collaborate with various global organisations and universities. The American Digital University, USA collaborated with the Management Studies department to establish exchange programmes. Similarly, Taylor’s University collaborated to facilitate an experiential learning programme for the MBA students. Many other universities in Thailand, UK, and Russia have also collaborated with the university to establish student exchange programmes, networking sessions and to facilitate a study abroad experience.
To bridge the gap between industry and academia and to bring in technology sharing and mutual research, the university has a Centre for Intellectual Property Rights. The centre focuses on research and innovation and has filed more than 126 patents in a short span of time. It further ensures speedy & accurate identification and preservation of innovations.
The National Innovation Startup Policy at VISTAS was set up as Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Policy 2018-23 which aims to achieve higher growth in an entrepreneurial venture, technological development, nurture innovation and knowledge creation. The objectives of the policy is to promote entrepreneurship among the students and assist them in successfully launching startups.
The Centre for Advanced Research and Development is established to promote research in varied disciplines. The centre develops advanced methods and concepts for complex problems and dedicatedly works towards advancing in disciplines such as Environmental Engineering, NanoTechnology, Stem Cell Research, Digital Innovations, Big Data, Visualisation, and many more.
The university has various clubs like Entrepreneurial Development Club, Short Film and Photography, Dance Club, Music Club, and Tamil Literary Club. The action plan for these clubs is to host study programmes, quizzes, guest lectures, and awareness workshops. It helps the students fully enjoy, and learn through these clubs in an interactive manner.
