Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dehradun was established under Section 2(f) of UGC Act 1956, enacted vide an Act of Uttarakhand No. 12 of 2013. It is a top private university in the city of Dehradun in Uttrakhand. The campus of the university is spread across 200 acres in the foothills of the Himalayas. It was the first university in the state to introduce the Doctorate Programme in Medical Sciences and Actuarial Sciences & Analytics. The university follows a holistic approach to education. It aims to provide integrated health services as well as social-outreach programmes to the students. It is the only university in Uttrakhand with a multispeciality hospital called Himalayan Hospital and Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences.
Swami Rama Himalayan University provides its students with a range of multidisciplinary programmes. Science of Joyful Living (SoJL) workshops are also conducted for the students on campus. The university puts focus on the practical learning, skill development, and innovation of the students. It has tie up with around 70 organisations and industries like Rostock University, Global Health Alliance, AIIMS, Laurea University of Applied Sciences, IIT Roorkee, etc. For decades, the university has been working to provide a platform to the youth to transform into effective professionals in their respective careers.
At the university, the full time faculties are experienced professionals which helps in delivering real world knowledge into the classrooms. The university is equipped with spacious classrooms and conference halls for the ease of learning to the students. To improve the learning experience, its students are provided with visual learning aids like OHPs, LCDs, and audio systems. Entrepreneurship Development Cell of the institute provides students with the required assistance for developing entrepreneurship-skills. The centralised placement cell invites top International and National recruiters to the campus.
The Himalayan Hospital is rated amongst the best super speciality hospitals in the state of Uttarakhand. The hospital has a holistic approach to medical care and it provides medical care to all the segments of the society including the underprivileged sections. It has an ultra modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 40 beds for patients. It is the only hospital in the state with Bone Marrow Transplantation. The hospital organises free health and medical camps in the city.
The Research Institute is the constituent of the Himalayan Hospital. It is one of the premier centres for cancer treatment in Uttarakhand. It aims to provide multidisciplinary cancer education as well as treatment to people. It is a 262 bedded facility with OT and ICU complex with 16 post-operative beds. The institute collaborates with the leading International and National organisations.
Recently, it has established the Global Consortium for Breast Cancer in Young Women under the age of 40 with leading international universities of the world. It aims to develop a cellular understanding of breast cancer with advanced technology. It also promotes academic exchanges amongst its member institutions. The member institutes of the consortium are – SR Himalayan University, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute, TATA Memorial Centre, Kyoto University, and YSC.
The centre provides short-term and diploma courses to its students. It aims to provide skill education to the students of the university. It acknowledges the lack of practical knowledge amongst the young professionals to advance in their respective careers. It provides skill programmes in collaboration with the National Skill Development Centre (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Education. It offers B.Voc in Culinary Management and certificate courses like Suryamitra Skill Development Programme.
