Established in 1949, Savitribai Phule Pune University is a pre-eminent state university. Famously known as ‘the Oxford of the East’, the university provides top-rate, research-driven education. To foster a rich, research-oriented eco-sphere, the university organises many seminars, conferences, and competitions. The university houses an efficient Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) that imparts curriculum-based education through the medium of television. For its quality education and sophisticated infrastructure, the university has received Grade ‘A+’ from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
In the year 2018, the Savitribai Phule Pune University set up its distance learning branch, the School of Open Learning in the city of Pune. The school offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in distance learning mode to deliver education to the deprived sections of society. Apart from providing printed study material, the university uses technology creatively by delivering video lectures to its students on its exclusive youtube channel. For far-fetched imparting of education, the university has started a network of study centres.
The School of Open Learning at Savitribai Phule Pune University provides an online application process for admissions to its students in distance learning mode. The students can easily apply for admission from their homes, without having to visit the main campus or the study centres.
To deliver distance education to distant corners, the School of Open Learning at Savitribai Phule Pune University has a beehive of study centres. The study centres are fully furnished with adequate infrastructural facilities for the assistance of the students and have competent human resources. The students needn’t go to the main university campus with regard to curriculum and examinations.
To set up essential teacher-student communication, the school schedules Personal Contact Programmes (PCPs) for a stipulated time. The students can meet skilled teachers and discuss and clarify doubts with regard to the course and its syllabus.
To assist students to get a better grasp on the conceptual knowledge base of their respective courses, the School of Open Learning has instituted its own Youtube channel. The channel consists of video lectures delivered by adept teachers and subject experts.

Eligible candidates have to log in to the official website of SOL and create an online registration with their personal and academic credentials. The candidate selects the course of study he intends to take up, that is, undergraduate/postgraduate, and uploads his photograph, signature, and academic certificates, and also pays the application fee for registration via the website.
Admission to undergraduate courses at SOL is normally done based on the marks obtained in Class 12. For postgraduate courses, it may be based on graduation results or CUET-PG scores, depending upon courses/seat availability.
After the processing of the application form, an online confirmation of admission to the selected students is provided. The candidate will then make the fee payment and take the printout of the receipt. After verification, they can access study materials and dates of examination provided by SOL.
