Dating back to the year 1970, the Himachal Pradesh University is a reputable, state university, lodged in the scenic landscape of Shimla. The university promotes interdisciplinary research that resolves to address contemporary as well as eminent socio-economic problems. Through its tactical industrial collaborations, the university encourages industry-academia linkage for the delivery of advanced education and better placement to its students. For its performance in the educational realm, the university has been graded ‘A’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
In the year 1970, the Himachal Pradesh University set up the International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL) to disseminate modern education to those who cannot participate in mainstream education. Through its comprehensive resources and well-stocked library, the university delivers educational services at the postgraduate level in varied fields. For the smooth acclimatisation of students into distance education, the university organises adequate teacher-student interaction in its learner support centres.
It would be problematic and discouraging if the distance learning students have to travel long distances to reach the main campus for administrative and curricular work. The International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL) has opened four learning support centres in different parts of the state of Himachal Pradesh for the benefit of the students.
Distance learning education is bereft of vital teacher-student interaction. To furnish its distance learning courses with that essential communication, the centre conducts Personal Contact Programmes for a scheduled number of days. The students can talk over their coursework with experienced teachers and widen their knowledge.
n order to mentor students on reading ahead onto the right career path, the International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL) has instituted a committed Placement Cell. The cell endeavours to provide apt employment opportunities and internships to students through its tactical industry linkages.
For imparting interdisciplinary, skill-based education, the centre provides courses based on the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS). The students can choose courses of their interest from a different discipline to get a broad, comprehensive education.
For the benefit of the students enrolled in distance learning programmes, the International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL) supplies students with sufficient accommodation facilities. The students can stay at the facility in exchange for a reasonable charge during their contact classes and examinations.
The International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL) has an exclusive library for students. The library is well stocked with resources of diversified branches of knowledge. The students of distance learning mode can avail of the library resources for clearer vision.
Other than proffering students diligently designed learning material, the centre provides assignments for every course. The assignments are well-structured and help students to evaluate and deepen their understanding. The assignments can be easily downloaded from the centre’s website by anyone who wishes to improve their comprehension.
