Established with an aim to become the global centre of excellence in maritime education, research, and development, the Gujarat Maritime University was set up under the Gujarat Private Universities Act. The university provides a range of programmes, including LLM, MBA, Executive Diploma, and PhD in the same field. To raise the standards of maritime education in India, the university has established international collaborations with world-renowned global partners like the Erasmus, UPT, and STC International.
To give the students a holistic experience of the marine sector, the courses, and curriculum that the university follows comprise lectures, case studies, industrial training, and field visits. The university provides a specialised MBA programme in shipping and logistics which is curated by the Copenhagen Business School which is one of the renowned business schools in Europe. Additionally, the university has a dedicated Center of Executive Education that offers short-term courses for working professionals. Adani Ports and Logistics, Yusen Logistics, and Gujarat Maritime Board are some of the prominent recruiters of the university.
The School of Maritime Management was launched by the university in the year 2020. It is dedicated to offering solutions that hamper the growth of the industry. As this sector faces issues like global economic crises, decarbonization, and lack of automation, the various courses help the professionals to upskill and address these issues effectively. The school provides MBA in Shipping and Logistics, Marine Tourism, Shipping Trade & Finance, among many others.
The university has a Centre for Executive Education which is specially designed for the working professionals who work at major ports, and maritime and logistics companies. The centre offers programmes that are teamed up with global partners in maritime education – the Erasmus UPT and STC International.
The students are offered a unique opportunity to get international exposure at the Erasmus University of Netherlands which is among the best universities in the world. They get the opportunity to spend a semester at the university which is part of their study curriculum. The study tour includes a visit to the Port of Rotterdam followed by classroom training and off-campus activities.
The university has collaborated with several national and international maritime and logistics organisations. This helps the students to expand their knowledge base, and network with peers as well as industry experts.
Under the School of Maritime Management, the university has an MBA programme in Shipping and Logistics which is designed by the Copenhagen Business School that is known to offer the world-renowned ‘BLUE MBA’. The programme is one of its kind with a curriculum meeting global standards.
The university hosts guest lectures by prominent professionals and industry experts to give students plenty of exposure to knowledge. This helps the students understand the nuances of various industries.
