Established in the year 1969, the University of Jammu is a NAAC accredited university. The university is ranked at 51st position by NIRF and has been granted Autonomy status by UGC which help students study an updated curriculum. It is a multidisciplinary university with special focus on research and advancement.
Launched on 3rd March 1976, the Directorate of Distance Education, University of Jammu was formerly known as the Institute of Correspondence Education. Presently, the university has more than 12,000 students who have enrolled in their distance courses. The university offers various formats of instruction. Additionally, it has introduced Personal Contact Programmes and Councelling Sessions for the students to help them explore more opportunitnities. It also provides study material and other resources to make the study process easy and effective. The students get to choose from a vast collection of around 37,000 books, magazines, and periodicals.

In order to compensate for the lack of regular classes, the Directorate offers self learning material to the students. The learning material is provided at the time of admission and is available both in print as well as online.
To address the doubts and queries of students, the university has set-up a carefully crafted Personal Contact Programme. The programme help students gain a better understanding of their respective domains.
The Directorate has in place a fully furnished library which is equipped with about 37,246 books. The library acts as a resourceful center of knowledge for the students. There is alsoa computer laboratory with a stable internet connection and wi-Fi facility available at the library.
In order to offer excellent academic and administrative support to the students, the university has set up various Learners Support Centres. These support centres guide a student through all the requirements of the course.

Interested students are required to fill the online application form available at the Directorate’s website. After filling detailed information in teh form, uploading the scanned copies of all the requisite documents and signature. After submitting the documents, a student has to pay the application fee via online mode.
