Aligarh Muslim University was established in 1920. The university started as a college which was formerly named as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College, in the year 1920 by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. It has a well established standing in the global market thus attracting students from various countries such as – Africa, West Asia, and South-East Asia. In addition, the university has also reserved a few seats for international students from SAARC and Commonwealth Countries. The university is accredited by NAAC with an ‘A+’ grade which demonstrates its academic excellence and is also ranked first among Indian Universities in India Ranking 2018 by Times Higher Education.
Centre of Distance and Online Education (CDOE) has adopted adopts flexible and innovative methods of education to ensure “independent learning” to anyone, anytime and anywhere. The centre offers programs of study that are customised to meet the learning requirements of knowledge seekers as well as to ensure that they learn at their own pace and convenience. The university offers pocket-friendly course so that educationally backward sections can take advantage of its programs. Centre for Distance Education also focuses to provide education to women particularly of minority community.
Aligarh Muslim University aims to provide the best quality education to its students at an affordable cost. Keeping this in mind, it provides various scholarships to the students in order to remove any kind of financial barrier in their learning process.
Students Counselling Center is a team of professional counsellors, faculty advisors and students to provide academic assistance. The center has been established by keeping in mind the problems of students, particularly newcomers. It organises numerous sessions throughout the academic year aimed at sensitising the campus community on issues related to mental health, emotional quotient and general well-being.
The Training & Placement Office of the university aims to provide job opportunities and corporate exposure to the students. In the last few years, the Training & Placement Office has successfully provided placement assistance to the students of different courses and has also invited reputed MNCs from social sector, information technology, manufacturing, media, banking and finance, law, and many other disciplines.
The university provides students with online learning material such as e-books, videos, audios, journals, etc. for their reference. The students have an easy access to all this material that makes their learning process effective and efficient.
