Established in 1976, Maharshi Dayanand University is an esteemed teaching-cum-affiliating university. Set up with vision to foster an investigative skill set amongst its students, the university delivers a research-driven curriculum. Furthermore, the university possesses a modernistic research infrastructure that includes a Central Instrumentation Lab, a Central Animal House, an extensive library, and a computer centre. For its remarkable performance in higher education and research, the university has been awarded Grade ‘A+’ from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Set up in 1988 as the Correspondence Cell, the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) is the distance learning arm of Maharishi Dayanand University. Founded with the aim to deliver extensive education to deprived sections of the remotest corners, the centre offers courses in multiple fields of study. In order to further the learning experience, the centre renders students with adequate infrastructural facilities in the form of a library and an Information and Communication Technology Lab. Through its dedicated Student Support Services Camps (SSSCs), the centre offers students with needful teacher-student interaction to enhance their learning.
Due to the absence of a physical classroom experience, the students enrolled in distance learning programmes face diverse issues. The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) organises Student Support Services Camps (SSSCs) to guide students throughout the duration of their course, with regard to their curriculum and examination. Also, the centre conducts soft skills workshops for students via these camps and encourages discussion-based learning.
Other than delivering high-rate education, the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) also aims to assist students to embark upon the accurate path, in terms of careers. To achieve this aim, the centre is running the Employment Information and Guidance Bureau with the collaborative efforts of the Haryana Government’s Department of Employment. The bureau endeavours to link students to the right employment opportunities.
In order to supplement the comprehensive self-learning material, the centre owns a well-equipped library for the students enrolled in the distance learning programme. The library provides a well-ventilated reading room for the students to better their understanding of their coursework.
Unlike the regular mode of learning, the distance learning mode of education lacks in-person teacher-student interaction. To work upon this limitation, the centre has set up an Information and Communication Technology Lab to build enhanced contact between teachers and students via technological tools. Also, the centre owns a computer lab to provide students access to a large network of online learning resources.
All through the duration of their course, a student enrolled in a distance learning programme can encounter issues, with regard to admission, administration, and examination. The centre has set up a Grievance Redressal Cell for the students to file their grievances and receive a timely redressal of those grievances.
