Established in 1984, Rajiv Gandhi University today stands among premier educational institutions for higher education in India. The university received UGC recognition in 1985. It has adopted a unique approach towards education wherein the university also contributes towards the socio-economic and cultural development of the state of Arunachal Pradesh. It organises conferences, workshops and guest lectures on a regular basis to provide maximum learning opportunities to students.
The Institute of Distance Education, Rajiv Gandhi University was established to impart education irrespective of the problems of access, infrastructure and socio-economic barriers. The institute offers quality higher education that focuses on both providing knowledge as well as promoting personal development of the students. All the courses offered at the institute have been approved by the Distance Education Council (DEC). The university also provides students with Self-Learning Material which is up to date with the latest happe nings in the domain.
nstitute of Distance Education provides students with thorough Self-Learning Material which enables students to understand, in detail, the various fundamental concepts of their respective courses. It enable students to learn at their own pace and focus on areas that they are most interested in.
To bridge the gap between students and teachers, the university has set-up Personal Contact Programmes wherein the students get to personally interact with their instructors. This allows students to solve their queries and get tehir doubts addressed.
The university offers commutation facilities for examinations to distance learning students. It has set-up a bus service which runs from Vivek Vihar to Rajiv Gandhi University Campus to make sure that students can reach the examination centres without any hassle. A student is required to pay the bus fare.

To apply at the Institute of Distance Education, a student can collect the application form either from the institute or the various study centres established by the university. The fully filled application form is to be submitted along with original documents (only for verification) at the study centre. The university does not accept the fee in cash, it is to be submitted either online through the link www.ide.rgu.ac.in or through Demand Draft
