Established on 30th April 1962, Punjabi University (Patiala) is the second university in the world to be named after a language. Initially, it was established to focus on literature, language and culture of Punjab. Over the period of time, it has developed itself into a multidisciplinary university. The university is recognised by the UGC and is also awarded an “A” grade by NAAC.

With the passage of time, Punjabi University started to offer distance education courses with the aim to promote education and reach out to remote areas.
