MHT CET Exam 2023: Date, Syllabus, Tips, Mock Tests

The Government of Maharashtra has set up the Commissioner of State CET Cell to conduct the MHT-CET examination. The exam is conducted on an annual basis for students seeking admission into various Engineering, Technology and Pharmacy courses across the state of Maharashtra. The exam will be conducted in the month of May this year and will assess students on the basis of their understanding of various fundamental concepts of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

What is the MHT CET Exam?

The Maharashtra Common Entrance Test is an entrance examination that is conducted by the Government of Maharashtra for admission into various undergraduate courses in the domains of Engineering & Technology and Pharmacy in various colleges across the state of Maharashtra. The exam checks the knowledge of candidates in the subjects of Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology.

Purpose of the MHT CET Exam

The purpose of the MHT-CET examination is to provide a single channel of entrance into various Engineering and Pharmacy courses. The exam helps abrogate the need of conducting multiple exams for admission into different colleges by providing a single window for admission. Furthermore, it enables students all over the country to apply for admission into various undergraduate courses in the state of Maharashtra.

Eligibility Criteria for MHT CET Exam

The eligibility criteria for appearing in the MHT-CET Exam 2023 are mentioned below:

  • The candidate must be a citizen of India.

  • The candidate must have passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination with Physics & Mathematics as compulsory subjects and Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subject/ Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Informatics Practices/ Agriculture/ Engineering Graphics/ Business Studies as one of the subjects with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for candidates belonging to reserved categories) in the aggregate of these three subjects from a recognised board.

  • The candidates who have passed a Diploma in  Engineering and Technology with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for candidates belonging to reserved categories) in aggregate from a recognised institute are also eligible to apply.

  • For candidates who do not belong to the state of Maharashtra, it is mandatory to have obtained a non-zero positive score in JEE (Main).

  • For candidates seeking admission into 5-year Pharmacy courses, it is mandatory to have qualified 10+2 or its equivalent examination with Physics & Chemistry as compulsory subjects and Mathematics/ Biology as one of the subjects with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for candidates belonging to reserved categories) in the aggregate of these three subjects from a recognised board. For candidates who do not belong to the state of Maharashtra, it is mandatory to have obtained a non-zero positive score in NEET.

  • For candidates seeking admission into Pharm D. courses, it is mandatory to have qualified 10+2 or its equivalent examination with Physics & Chemistry as compulsory subjects and Mathematics/ Biology as one of the subjects with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for candidates belonging to reserved categories) in the aggregate of these three subjects from a recognised board. For candidates who do not belong to the state of Maharashtra, it is mandatory to have obtained a non-zero positive score in NEET.

  • Candidates who have passed a Diploma in Pharmacy with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for candidates belonging to reserved categories) from a recognised board are also eligible to apply. However, a non-zero positive score in NEET is mandatory for those who do not belong to the state of Maharashtra.

  • It is to be noted here that there is no age restriction for appearing in the MHT-CET exam.

Registration Process & Fee

The application form for the MHT-CET exam is available only online. In order to apply, a candidate must visit the official website for the exam and follow the below-mentioned steps:

  1. The first step is Online Registration. A candidate can register by clicking on the “New Registration” button on the application portal and filling in some basic details like name, Date of Birth, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Religion, Gender, etc. This step will be followed by an OTP Verification. On successful verification, you will receive your Application Number.

  2. After this, a candidate needs to log in using the Application Number and Password and fill out the detailed application form including your personal details, category & domicile details, qualification details, etc.

  3. After filling in the details, the candidates need to upload their photograph, signature and identity proof in the specified format.

  4. After this, the candidates have to preview and validate their information.

  5. The next step is the payment of the application fee through Card/ UPI/ Net Banking.

  6. After paying the application fee, take a printout of the application form and keep it with you for future reference.

MHT CET 2023 Exam Centres

The MHT-CET exam is a Computer Based Test. The test will be conducted at various district headquarters located in Maharashtra. In addition to these district headquarters, the exam will also be conducted in the Capital Districts of various Indian States like Karnataka, Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi-NCR, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. However, the availability of these centres will be based upon the number of candidates willing to appear in the test in that region.

MHT CET 2023: Expected Exam Cut-Off

Based upon the cut-off trends for the past couple of years, it is expected that candidates who score between 190 to 200 marks will rank between 1 to 55. MHT CET Important Exam Guidelines

  1. The question paper will consist of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each with 4 alternatives. Out of these, only one will be considered as the correct answer.

  2. The questions from the sections of Physics, Chemistry and Biology will be of 1 mark each. However, the questions from Mathematics will be of 2 marks each. There will be no negative marking.

  3. The questions will appear on the screen one by one. You must avoid spending too much time on any question.

  4. The question paper is available in 3 different languages, that is, English, Urdu and Marathi. However, only those students will receive the question paper in Urdu and Marathi who have opted for the respective language as their preferred choice.

  5. Remember to carry your admit card as well as a valid photo identity proof to the examination centre.

  6. The examination will end at the time stated on the admit card. No extra time will be given to any candidate.

  7. Candidates will not be allowed to leave the examination hall before the end of the examination.

  8. Electronic devices such as calculators, smart watches, cell phones, etc. are not allowed inside the examination hall.

MHT CET Preparation Tips

  1. First of all, it is very important to familiarise yourself with the syllabus and the pattern of the exam. Thus, you must carefully go through the syllabus, exam pattern and the previous year’s question papers for the MHT CET exam.

  2. The next important thing that you must do is to prepare a timetable for your preparations. It is important that you study all the subjects every day. While preparing the schedule, allocate time for revisions, and mock tests as well.

  3. It is crucial to strategically pick and arrange the relevant study material. Start with the basic NCERT books and once you are done with them, move to the books recommended by previous years’ toppers and academic experts.

  4. The key is to revise again and again. It will not only help you to retain important information but will also enable you to develop a comprehensive understanding of various concepts.

  5. Do not forget to practise, evaluate and assess your preparations. Take regular mock tests and carefully evaluate your performance. Identify the areas that you need to improve upon and work on strengthening your hold over these areas.

  6. Even if you are unable to cover the entire syllabus, just keep in mind to revise the things that you have studied so as to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts.

  7. Do not ignore your physical health. Remember that a sound mind resides in a sound body. Therefore, take out time for some outdoor activities.

  8. During the exam, strategically allocate time for various sections of the exam. Skip the time-consuming questions and get back to them towards the end of the examination.
