Manonmaniam Sundaranar University is a prestigious, multi-disciplinary institution, that was founded in a rural setting in 1990 by the Government of Tamil Nadu. Established with the motto of “Reaching the Unreached’, the university aspires to offer education to the students belonging to the rural and financially deprived sections of the southernmost regions of Tamil Nadu. It has 91 affiliated colleges, 6 university colleges, and 3 constituent colleges. It has a digitally aided library, which offers access to its vast e-resources to the students and renders to the needs of the visually-impaired students. The Manonmaniam Sundaranar University has been reaccredited with Grade ‘A’ by NAAC.
The Manonmaniam Sundaranar University has a distance learning arm- the Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education. The Directorate offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate, PG Diploma, Diploma, and Certificate level courses and a Professional Programme. It has seven Spot Admission Centres, that smoothen the admission process of the students. Also, it has as many as thirteen Learner Support Centres to render necessary guidance and mentorship to the students with regard to admission, curriculum, and examinations.
The Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education has seven spot admission centres for students, who want to enrol in distance learning courses. The spot admission centres ease the admission process of students. The students can participate in the set admission process by visiting the nearest spot admission centre.
Apart from offering resources in printed form, the Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education offers all the curriculum and the learning materials to the students on their website so that they can easily retrieve it from the comforts of their homes. This eases the distance learning process for the students. It also gives online internal assessments on its website.
The directorate has around 13 Learner Support Centres in the state of Tamil Nadu. The objective of these centres is to assist students to assimilate into the distance learning mode through Personal Contact Programme (PCP) classes. It facilitates in-person interaction with mentors and experts who offers required guidance to the students.

The candidate has to register at the online admission portal. After registration, a candidate must log in, fill in the required information, upload the photograph and take a print of the application. The said printout has to be sent to the Directorate along with some other documents. After the application has been received and verified at the Directorate, the applicant will login and pay the fees.
